Panu Korhonen

Panu Korhonen is the leader of the Usability Group in Nokia Research Center. The group has evolved during the last five years from a small usability consulting team to a multi-disciplinary research group of 20 researchers representing psychology, sociology, design, engineering and theatre. In addition to supporting product design the group performs applied research in interaction techniques for mobile terminals, and leads cross-technology strategic design projects to identify new potential businesses for Nokia.

HCI Tradition vs. Information vs. Meaning
The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community has widely accepted the criteria for high quality user interfaces. For example, ISO standards describe three main usability attributes: effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction. Traditional HCI practices, however, don't seem to match with the latest trends in the scope of the "Information vs. Meaning". The presentation will discuss the relation of HCI to information appliances and web technologies and point out issues for further research.
