At scope, international speakers from such diverse fields as computer
science, design, human-computer interaction, entertainment and
economics present projects and visions that contribute to the
evolution of information technology and its uses in the next decades.
scope is organized in five main sections, outlined on the right.

knowledge interfaces
addresses the changes we might expect to take place in the relationship
between humans and large knowledge repositories: changes triggered
by the advance of digital networks that require novel methods
of information management, storage, and distribution, and new
approaches for the communication and representation of knowledge.
This section presents ongoing projects from research labs and
the industry, provides a preview of things to come, and analyzes
the possible uses and impact of these developments.
disappearing information
explores scenarios where intelligent environments become feasible
through smaller and smarter computers, embedded virtually everywhere:
into objects and tools of everyday use, even into the human body.
This will radically change the way we interact with our surroundings,
the way we organize leisure and work, and the way we communicate
with others. This section investigates developments in engineering,
interface design and the materials sciences and presents projects
that explore these topics in depth.
vanishing boundaries
presents projects and theories that aim at dissolving the boundaries
between artificial and real. Computers have already become tools
for acquiring knowledge through experiences made in artificial
worlds. What media, what storytelling techniques will derive from
these developments? How will multimedia and entertainment industries,
but also traditional educational and cultural institutions respond
to these technological changes?
Vanishing boundaries casts light on latest developments in the
fields of simulation, interaction, technology and storytelling,
and explores problems and techniques of the various disciplines.
a view from the balcony
consists of a series of contributions commenting on and analyzing
the scenarios developed in the other sections. A view from the
balcony invites contributors from outside the IT community such
as philosophers, economists, politicians, designers, planners
and scientists to discuss their views of IT's impact on their
fields and on society at large, with the speakers and the audience.
online.scope
is scope's online conference section, designed as an open forum
where everybody speakers, attendees and the online community
is asked to post their personal strategies for making sense of
a changing world. This is also the place to make suggestions, post criticisms,
and join an online discussion with the program committee and the contributors.
