Internationally successful centers of innovation are also forums for the creative exchange of ideas. Thus, creating a climate, that encourages high-profile, international discussions on the future of technology is one of the goals, we think important to accomplish for Vienna. The first scope conference, to be held in Vienna from September 30 to October 1, 1999, is a step into this direction. The organizers Tech Gate Vienna and virtual real-estate have set themselves the ambitious goal of establishing scope as an indispensable annual meeting for high-level IT professionals and exponents of related disciplines. The mission: make scope a stimulating and innovative place for the exchange of ideas and projects and in the process, help draw a chart of interesting future developments. Our decision to fund the conference is in tune with an ongoing effort aimed at establishing Vienna internationally as a key center for innovation in information technology.
Construction of Tech Gate Vienna, a science and technology park, is scheduled to start this March, a virtual reality competence center and the telecommunications research center are soon to follow, and a citywide education network is well underway. In a field whose change rate is astounding, not to say breathtaking, it's more important than ever, to be part of the intellectual and creative processes that set the pace for this developments.
In this sense we believe that scope will not only be a gain for the attendees and speakers, but for the city as a whole.
